Going forward, Bethesda would be wise to employ a few of the techniques used in The Witcher 3, to create a fresher main quest for their next big budget RPG. Where the idea of having a main quest which changes based on the player’s action isn’t wholly new to Bethesda’s RPGs, only really being explored in the Obsidian Entertainment developed Fallout spin-off New Vegas, it doesn’t really come close to how well the concept is executed in CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3. If we’re being completely honest about it though, while playing the game it is difficult to escape the feeling that the Bethesda formula we all know and love is starting to show its age and has begun to feel a little tired in the 13 years since Morrowind was released. It can be very difficult to be critical of Fallout 4 without coming across as being deliberately and needlessly cynical, so I’ll just start off by stating that I think Fallout 4 is a good video game, hell it might even be a great video game.
